Subject: Safe Haven story for tomorrow and Friday.

A number of people have been working with Kristen McQueary over the past several months to put this story together. And that includes two of the VERY special Safe Haven families who opened up their hearts and homes for this. Kristen also attended the press conference when Gov. Quinn signed our last safe haven amendment.

I have not had a preview but I do know that Kristen understands the Safe Haven issue, and also felt the pain we all felt yesterday when we learned about the 37 yr. old woman at the homeless shelter who (allegedly) attempted to flush her newborn baby down the toilet.

Kristen has been a journalist for 16 years, currently working for the Chicago News Cooperative (NYTimes) and WBEZ. Mostly, she covers government and politics. She is married, lives in Chicago and has two young children.

You may want to listen and/or read what she has put together.

Hi Dawn and other sources for my special story,

The radio piece is scheduled to air tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. at 91.5 FM, Chicago Public Radio. It will air again during “All Things Considered,” sometime between 4 and 6 p.m. For those outside the Chicago area, you can listen live at www.wbez.org or you can go to the Web site Friday morning, and the audio will be posted under “programs” and “Eight Forty Eight.”

On Friday, the print version will run in the New York Times. You can find the story in the hard copy of the newspaper or online at www.nytimes.com.

Also on Friday, at Chicago News Cooperative (www.chicagonewscoop.org), which produces the Chicago NYTimes pages, you will find the print version of the story posted with a slideshow of pictures.

Phew! I sure have a lot of bosses.

Thank you, everyone, for your help and openness. I had a great time transcribing all the audio when I got back up here. There is a LOT of laughter on those tapes, from all of you.

Keep me in the loop on other developments and my best to you and your beautiful families.

Kristen McQueary
