The May Report: 8/6/2011: Well, well, well, after intense debate, media criticism and internal battles galore, the geniuses at Groupon will issue an amended S-1 on Monday showing the real accounting numbers and the lack of profitability; the effect will probably be a much lower IPO price; Is a fishy article by Reuters using an anonymous source a distraction, a violation of the “quiet period” and what about that analyst, Lou Kerner, they quote? As far as no report Thurs. & Fri. is concerned, sadly I have to admit that I have been seriously in the dumps since 2pm Thurs. and maybe Groupon’s games can help pull me out of it and get back to business; BTW, Julian Pretto has great offices which I toured on Tues.; State Farm debuted a community center / cafe Friday called Next Door on the north side near Trader Joe’s; growth troubles at IfbyPhone, especially in the fairly new outbound sales area; a Bob Geras Lexus and vanity plate sighting, but all in the next report

The May Report: 8/2/2011: RIP, Michael Golonzer [sic: Golenzer] of The Bagel; BabbaCo, which won the COMPETE competition at TechWeek, raises $1.2MM lead by Lightbank and SV Angel — can that just be a coincidence?; John Pletz reports that in Chicago “The median investment amount jumped to $15 million in the second quarter, up from $1.5 in the first quarter and $5.3 million a year earlier. Several companies raised more than $20 million in the quarter, led by Bolingbrook-based biochemical maker Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc., which landed $50 million in a later-stage investment. Chicago-based Braintree Inc., which helps companies handle electronic payments, raised $34.2 million, and Mu Sigma Inc., a Northfield-based data-analytics firm with 1,200 people, raised $25.8 million in its first round of outside capital. SitterCity Inc., an online baby-sitting service, raised $22.6 million in a follow-on investment.” Now, if J.B. leads the way w/ 2 deals, shouldn’t he now be added to Ted Zoller’s list of deal makers which he was omitted from — would you agree Melissa Harris?
