The May Report: 4/13/2011: Thornton was seen in the office for 30 minutes Friday and has not been seen since; They’re nervous about the upcoming forensic audit that is supposed to start today!; How Thornton gave $1.5MM to ICM, a Kolwich, KS company but the money went to build a plant in St. Joe, MO; Melanie Adcock gets the boot at Duo Consulting and Michael Silverman, the CEO, suggests to Melanie when he fired her out of the blue on the phone Monday afternoon that she could just tell me that she quit; Wasserberger is back in Chicago; MIT, the university that is, is giving the heave ho to all the MIT-EF chapters by putting them under the MIT Technology Review (a magazine) rather than under the Alumni Association — a big shake up and a vote of non-confidence in the chapters by the university; Melanie reviews WindyCity Go on April 9th and Bricks + Mobile on March 30th plus some other stuff on Hugh Park Jedwill and more…The question I still have about MobileApEx is whether Koelnmesse pulled the plug when they were asked to come up with a deposit for McCormick Place

The May Report: 4/10/2011: Talk about a two minute warning: The final performance of the Chicago Opera Theater starts in a few minutes at 3pm — hurry to get there if you are in the hood downtown; Warren Bent, Chet Kolodziej from Rockford, Ray Willis and others update us on their current activities and on what is going on in Wisconsin, Rockford and Michigan

The May Report April 10th, 2011

The May Report: 4/8/2011: Breaking news: Kansas Governor Sam Brownback gets tough with the KBA, demanding a forensic audit in which he picks the auditor — no more room for TVT to bamboozle them; ALS board committee meeting today that Tom Thornton may be attending; Tom Bennett reviews the BNC Venture Capital Group and comes up with a great line that may push SL out of the top spot for headline writing: “not having Ron May on the invite list to a Chicago Tech Event is kind of like having a Dirty Martini without The Olives”; Melanie informs us of a story about artist Chris Drew who encountered some USSR-like behavior right here in Chicago — he awaits trial this month for taping own arrest!; Len Bland sends article on equity for PR or coaching, etc.; Technori puffs Fred “the child of scientists” Hoch or better yet, Fred Flintstone; Sun-Times editorial tribute to Jim Tyree — the first of three reports today

The May Report April 8th, 2011

The May Report: 4/6/2011: Bulletin: Announced a few hours ago: THOMAS VOLNEY THORNTON AND OTHER KBA BOARD MEMBERS under CRIMINAL investigation by the Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney — TMR has learned that it’s for fraud, embezzlement, destruction of public records, pulling documents, pulling and replacing hard drives — in English, keeping two sets of books, and direct involvement in channeling funds to his friends and some fishy investments to boot. While charges have NOT been filed and indictments have not been brought yet, unlike Chicago, they don’t fool around in Kansas and we might be visiting our buddy Tom in jail. Many roads here lead to Chicago, esp. to Advance Life Sciences on whose board three of the people under investigation sit or have recently sat; Events moving too fast for me to hold off. I was going to tell you about the hearing last Fri. conducted by Susan Wagle, my new hero and chairman of the Kansas State Senate Commerce Committee and how quickly Thornton threw his new wife Lindsay under the bus — she left the KBA last week where she was being paid over $107K as a salaried employee in violation of the KBA’s anti-nepotism rules. Events have overtaken the story of the very dramatic hearing last Friday w/ John Carlin, KBA chairman and former KS governor

The May Report: 4/4/2011: First off, Melanie — and by virtue of the transitive property I — got fooled on Friday: Sweis is not leaving Juno Wallet and it was an April Fool’s Day joke with his new firm being EWormany, etc.; Best to read the small print next time; This is the first of three reports before the morning. This one is all about events this week, thanks to a tireless worker Melanie Adcock; Upcoming attractions include Warren Bent, Chet Kolodziej on all sorts of things including the great organizations in our neighbor to the north, Wisconsin and to the east, Michigan; Scott Harris, Ray Willis and what is going on with Japan and technology needs in the wake of the tragic events three weeks ago; A full behind the scenes look at the Thornton saga; a first real crack at the UIC OTM story and more….

The May Report: 4/1/2011: An April Fool and his company are soon parted: 1999 style hustler Chris Sweis is no longer at June Wallet as he claims he is going elsewhere to become the CEO and founder; Kevin Willer’s last day at Google and they’re taking his cell phone (646-232-1157) away and he starts at the CEC Monday morning; Tech Cocktail — I have lost track of which number this is — draws about 400 and many of those people were new to TC; and the focus is heavily on start-up entrepreneurs over sales/marketing and PR; Get this: Tom Thornton is sitting on $89MM in cash when the KBA is supposed to be getting $35MM a year and the Kansas State Legislature may cut the KBA’s annual budgetary allocation — I’m dying to know what happened at the hearing of the Commerce Committee of the Kansas senate today
