MoMo Holiday Party Dec. 6 at English Bar and Grill
By Melanie Adcock
I was not at all expecting this but Ron May climbed 2 flights of stairs to get to the second floor at the MoMo Holiday party. Good job, Ron! Though it was cold outside it was warm enough inside to be Miami with all the excitement going on. It’s been a great year for MoMo. The organization has been solidly reinvigorated this year and holds one of the most talked about well respected series of events in all of Chicagoland for Mobile.
Their monthly events this year have included fascinating mobile topics like IP patents, Cross Platform programming, and presentations from local mobile start ups. They have a lot to be proud of and the energy is infectious. I’ve gone to most of their events this year and I learn something new every time and come away much more informed about key industry issues. The holiday party had approximately 100 people in attendance. Snacks included chicken wings, potato fries, and and a delicious pastry appetizer with asparagus in it.
Present were local mobile scene notables like Anthony Hand, Rock star User Interface Designer at Motorola who also runs MoMo Chicago, Antonio Wells and Vincent Norment from As Seen On Phone, Mette Petersen from Kolenmesse representing MobileAppEx, DJ Grant and Brandon Williamson from Sole Search, Dave Boast from Microsoft, and David Allen, a mobile programmer with a company that is about to publicize their new company name ( I hope he’ll tell me what it is soon). It was nice to see a reporter who writes for Gapers Block www.gapersblock.com at this event. This is a good sign because it shows events like this have potential to include the cool hipster crowd and not just industry insiders.
Most of the people there were looking pretty hip though, I must say. I saw Chris Rollyson there. He is a member of the ITA and focuses mostly on Social Business Strategy for large enterprise companies as the Managing Director of CSRA, Inc. It was nice to see him get out and meet the mobile crowd. I think he made some great connections. He talked to DJ and Brandon from Sole Search about an event he’s doing in Florida this January. I’m sure it will be a real hardship to get down there, LOL!
Ron went around and met everyone at the party including Developer Jim Brady, Tara Shatkin, and a few people who were from out of town. Not many people had business cards so Ron made them write down their information on a sheet of paper. Many thanks for all who did that and hope you stay in touch. My bet for MoMo Chicago in 2011? I bet the interest and momentum doubles. To learn more about them please visit www.momochicago.org
