Good news concerning Mike Rhodes, born Michael Francis McCabe, by Ron May
* Mike’s home number in Tinley Park is “unlisted at the customer’s request.”
He is not answering his phone at 708-574-0500. I have not sent him an email yet since I thought he might not have access to it. mike@syncubator.com
I called ten or more hospitals including NMH, University of Chicago and Rush along with hospitals in Tinley Park, Palos, Blue Island, etc.
It was Vikki Valentine, Brian Connolly’s “wife,” who suggested Hinsdale Hospital and Good Samaritan in Downers Grove.
Adventist Hinsdale Hospital turned out to be the right one. Phone: (630) 856-9000. I just talked to them at about 2pm after I got home from dialysis.
The operator told me that Michael Rhodes had been a patient there but he was discharged and she did not know when he was discharged.
So that, at least, is good news. They would not have discharged him if he were in bad shape — one would hope.
My next step would have been to call funeral homes.
Mike, I hope we hear from you soon and that you’re A-OK.Mike has a lovely family — I think three beautiful daughters and a son and of course his wife.
I know that Melanie (and my mother) would have a hard time understanding this since both of them were quite concerned with Mike’s family and his emotional condition and how what I was doing might be viewed as intruding on his privacy, but the fact that I actually like Mike or that Melzinie and I consider him to be a friend has nothing to do with it. It is entirely irrelevant.
I would be doing the exact same thing if I had heard that Edward Domain, Fred Hoch, Gary Slack, Howard Tullman, Terry Howerton, David Weinstein, Dave Lundy or Nick Farina — just to grab a few names off the top of my head and some of them go back quite a while — were in the hospital. That would even include guys like Craig Rappin and David Grosky. (I don’t hate any of these people but they may hate me or have issues with me.) Come to think of it, that list could be much longer.
This is not about friendship. It is about reporting information that members of the technology community might want to know and hopefully reporting it accurately. That is not something that most people get.
HAVE A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING. THERE IS MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR.
