[Editor's note: May here. It is 6:06am and I can't be too late to dialysis, but the last two days were full of good stuff. The Funding Post event was great and I have tons of stuff for you from that. MIT-EF was last night.

Jeff Lyons who ran Primus and who has sat out a non-compete for three years will be announcing some big news in a few weeks. His partner is Dan DiCaro. I have not seen him in a long time. Lyons pointed out that in 2000 or 2001, a speaker at the IVCA said that 87% of the money in Chicago was Private Equity and 13% was venture capital, so that is why he and his partner started a PE firm and bought other companies with that money. Primus was sold four years ago and it was a marketing strategy and consulting firm. Jeff is convinced that the current business climate calls for less venture money to get off the ground.

Scoop time. A Senior VP at a publicly traded Chicago firm located in the Merchandise Mart which was formerly located in the northern burbs who used to work in Boston at a voice recognition software firm is planning to give his resignation on Friday, my sources say, and he's taking a job as CTO of a healthcare IT firm with 50 people. He wants to get back closer to an entrepreneurial culture and he'll be hiring some people too, my sources say. The firm he works for now is a competitor to Caremark, and yes, you have heard of them. I asked five or six people if I should print this and they said it is OK, but don't name his current firm. That is the old nasty Ron May coming back in full force so I know I am feeling better. Bob Geras, no need to send letters. You can't change your DNA. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Melanie and I can split that job up. She's the "nice man" and I'm the "ice man."

Michael Blaine of www.chicagofast.com/how says that QR Codes are the future of mobile applications. They function as a bar code "link" to any website. I met Michael at the launch party at Sully's which Melanie and I attended after MIT-EF and Michael drove us home. He is 26 and comes from Colorado Springs after growing up in Cleveland, I believe. The QR code is a bar code that can link to any site and it can give great info. to consumers in stores.

MIT-EF got 77 people, maybe one or two more than that, and there was a lively discussion. One of the panelists, Dennis Barsema --if I have this right -- was a founder of www.restaurant.com (he has an impressive background with many firms and 25 years in telecom) and Linda Darragh was full of good suggestions. I asked about the Mayoral race and Linda suggested a "moon project" for Chicago that will really put us on the map and she specifically mentioned a Chicago electric car distribution system. That would involve building an electric grid. Linda also mentioned that Watermelon Express got funding from Lightbank and a firm called Tap Me also got funding, but we have to look that up. She also said that she was off to a meeting in an undisclosed location to meet about eight start-up entrepreneurs -- and this is a regular thing every month or so. Avery Cohen and his buddy who programs at the Board of Trade will have a full write-up for us. Last night was also my first chance to see and hear John Roberson of the CEC and he seems to have his feet planted firmly on the ground. He's getting acquainted with the CEC and he seems to me to be a good guy at first blush.

It is obvious to all that Melanie Adcock has made a big difference in the life of TMR. But I found out last night at Sully's bar that Ms. Adcock is only human after all. At the bar she pulled out a pack of cigarettes and her brand is Natural American Spirit. She said that she smokes a half pack a day and has been smoking since the age of 15. She is now 33. So, if you used to smoke and have quit, send Melanie a note of encouragement to quit.If you smoke and have tried to quit, send her a note too. melanie_adcock@msn.com

I am so late now that they will hang me. Let me go. There are huge grants in Clean tech coming our way from DOE, Linda Darragh noted, and Michael Gruber of Cornerstone Angels is very involved in clean tech and some of that is in this report. Mobile apps are the hottest thing going these days and Linda Darragh pointed out that most of the New Venture Challenge firms are tied to that field. Jeff Lyons said that because of mobile apps and social media, venture capital is less important and less necessary than it was ten years ago. Also, a number of people mentioned micro financing and that is a specialty of Dennis Barsema's.Darragh also mentioned that Hyde Park Angels has 68 members now who will invest $250K each over the next five years. They are holding a meeting tonight, I believe she said and they are also starting up a special angel group for social ventures, if I have that right. Linda also mentioned an angel group forming at NU called Wildcat Angels. Between Chris Rollyson, Bill McDonald, Phillipe Lavie, Marsha Shur and a few others, there was no shortage of opinions expressed and some good debate.

Todor Krecu, who is the founder of www.junowallet.com and who was at his own launch party of course, posted on my Wall about getting the vote out for the bartender, Megan Qually on Metromix where she is a contender for being the top bartender in Chicago.
Todor wrote:

I'll try to have another report his afternoon and sorry, no time this morning to post the ads. Will have them in the next report.

BTW, in addition to all the events listed here, there is a panel discussion on TIFs at DePaul, with Ben Joravsky and Andy Shaw of the BGA moderating. I will try to find the notice and have that for you later today. I found it. The event is on the 28th at the DePaul Lincoln Park Campus Student Center at 6pm, so we have some time to publicize it.

BTW, proof that Funding Post was a good event: I only knew about twenty of the more than 120 people in the room. That is a good sign. They are going to shoot me at dialysis. I will be arriving at 8am which is about 90 minutes too late.]

Governor Quinn Announces Illinois to Receive Nearly $100 million in New High-Tech Investment

Four More Projects will Create Hundreds of Jobs Across State

CHICAGO – September 13, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today announced that four more Illinois broadband projects have been awarded a total of $73 million in federal funding to build and improve high-tech infrastructure throughout the state. Over $16 million in funding from the Illinois Jobs Now! capital program helped secure the federal awards, which bring Illinois’ American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) broadband funding total to more than $244 million.

“Broadband access is critical to help grow the Illinois economy. That’s why we’ve aggressively competed for federal stimulus money to improve our state’s high-tech infrastructure,” Governor Quinn said. “As of today, Illinois has received over $240 million in federal broadband funding, which will put hundreds of highly skilled Illinoisans to work.”

Together, the four projects will create approximately 450 direct jobs and put more than $96 million public and private dollars into the Illinois economy.

“Broadband is an important economic tool, and too many Illinoisans lack adequate and affordable access. Our homes and businesses need affordable access to high speed internet connections, in the same way our homes and businesses need services like water, gas and electricity,” said U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). “Today’s funding will increase access to broadband, create jobs in Illinois and help close the digital divide.”

Convergence Technologies, Inc. received a $9.1 million federal award matched with $700,000 in state capital funds to offer last-mile wireless broadband and digital phone service (VoIP) in Cook, Kankakee and Will Counties in Illinois, and Lake, Newton and Porter Counties in Indiana. The project will benefit tens of thousands of residents, businesses and community institutions, and create 50 jobs.

Norlight, Inc. received an $11.1 million federal award matched with $450,000 in state capital funds leveraged with $350,000 in private investment to expand a wireless network in 13 unserved and underserved areas in central Illinois. This project will benefit more than 9,700 businesses and 804 community institutions, and will create more than 36 jobs.

Northern Illinois University, on behalf of the Illinois Broadband Opportunity Partnership – Northwest Region, received $46.1 million in federal dollars matched with $14 million in state capital funds and $8.5 million in private funding to build an 870-mile fiber-optic network across nine-counties. This project will interconnect with the DeKalb County broadband project, which received stimulus funding in February.

MyWay Village, will use its $4.7 million federal award matched with $1.2 million in state capital funds leveraged with $890,000 in private investment to engage thousands of senior citizens and people with disabilities in 23 public housing communities to learn the basics of e-mail, Web access and other practical computer skills. MyWay Village has partnered with local Workforce Investment Act organizations to help seniors who develop their digital literacy skills to find part time work.

All of the federal funding was awarded through a highly competitive process led by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service. Seventeen Illinois projects have so far secured broadband funding from the USDA and the US Department of Commerce. All together, they represent more than 3,000 jobs and $350 million of investment in Illinois.

A longtime advocate of broadband-based opportunities in Illinois, Governor Quinn made sure funding for technology projects was included in the Illinois Jobs Now! public works plan.

Tech Industry Adds 30,200 Jobs in 1st Half of 2010
Tech Manufacturing, Software Services, and Engineering & Tech Services All Add Jobs

Washington, DC- TechAmerica Foundation today released a report based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data that shows the U.S. high-tech industry added 30,200 jobs between January and June of 2010, a 0.5 percent gain. The report looks at four sectors within the high-tech industry: tech manufacturing, communications services, software services, and engineering and tech services.

“Though the tech industry was among the last to feel the effects of the economic downturn of 2008 – 2009, it was not immune to job loss and is only slowly showing signs of climbing out of it,” said Josh James, Vice President, Research and Industry Analysis, TechAmerica Foundation. “Tech employment as of June 2010 stood at 5.78 million, compared to 5.99 million in January 2009. So there is still a way to go before we’ve made up for lost jobs, and continued recovery is by no means certain. With job growth in three of the four tech sectors, we remain guardedly optimistic.”

“As one of the last industries to feel the effects of the recession, the technology industry is now appears to be slowly turning the corner with the rest of the economy,” said TechAmerica President and CEO Phil Bond. “We have weathered the storm better than most. From its position embedded in every other industry, technology remains the best hope for driving robust recovery across the economy. America can only realize the full promise of an innovation recovery with smarter public policies focused on developing and attracting the best talent, investing in research and development, and growing and securing our information infrastructure.”

The technology industry continued to add jobs until the last quarter of 2008, by which time much of the rest of the private sector was already well into recession.

Over the most recent six months, high-tech manufacturing in the United States once again added jobs, reversing the downward trend. Technology manufacturers added 9,100 net jobs in the first half of 2010, for a total of 1.24 million tech manufacturing jobs in June – a 0.7 percent gain.

Two of the three high-tech services sectors added jobs in the first six months of 2010: software services (+14,200) and engineering and tech services (+29,700). Communications services, which includes Internet and telecom companies, shed 22,800 jobs from January to June of 2010.

On a year-to-year basis, from June 2009 through June 2010, tech lost 72,800 jobs, a 1.2 percent workforce decline. Over the same time period the U.S. private sector shed 334,000 jobs – 0.3 percent decline.

All data are compiled from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Employment Survey and are preliminary, subject to revision, and not adjusted for seasonal variances. This report is not comparable to TechAmerica Foundation’s annual Cyberstates or Cybercities reports.

The Rise of Apps Culture

by Kristen Purcell, Roger Entner, Nichole Henderson

Sep 14, 2010

pewinternet.org/Reports/2010/The-Rise-of-Apps-Culture.aspx

Overview

Some 35% of U.S. adults have software applications or “apps” on their phones, yet only 24% of adults use those apps. Many adults who have apps on their phones, particularly older adults, do not use them, and 11% of cell owners are not sure if their phone is equipped with apps.

Among cell phone owners, 29% have downloaded apps to their phone and 13% have paid to download apps.

“An apps culture is clearly emerging among some cell phone users, particularly men and young adults,” said Kristen Purcell, Associate Director for Research at the Pew Internet Project. “Still, it is clear that this is the early stage of adoption when many cell owners do not know what their phone can do. The apps market seems somewhat ahead of a majority of adult cell phone users.”

“This is a pretty remarkable tech-adoption story, if you consider that there was no apps culture until two years ago,” said Roger Entner, co-author of the report and Senior Vice President and Head of Research and Insights for Telecom Practice at Nielsen. “Every metric we capture shows a widening embrace of all kinds of apps by a widening population. It’s too early to say what this will eventually amount to, but not too early to say that this is an important new part of the technology world of many Americans.”

About the Survey
This report is based on a Pew Internet telephone survey of 2,252 U.S. adults age 18 and older, conducted by Princeton Survey Research International between April 29 and May 30, 2010. The sample included 1,917 adult cell phone users, 744 of whom were contacted on their cell phones. The margin of error is +/- 2.4 percentage points for results based on the total sample of adults, and +/- 2.7 percentage points for results based on cell phone users.
It also contains Nielsen data from an analysis of 3,962 adults (age 18+) gathered in the December 2009 Apps Playbook, an online, self-administered non-probability sample of apps downloaders originally identified in Nielsen’s Mobile Insights survey of cell phone subscribers identified through online panels. Feel-good government grants leading cleantech astray

Grants for smart grid projects. Grants for battery manufacturing lines. Loan guarantees for renewable energy project development. Grants to private companies for energy efficiency projects. And with each it seems that the cleantech world cheers. Yet for all our desire to create sustainability in our consumption and use of energy, this model of getting us there is not only unsustainable but is of questionable value.
I want to emphasize that I am speaking about government grants to the private sector where the government is not the end customer and where the grants are for implementation of projects that businesses may (or may not) have done otherwise as opposed to grants to conduct basic R&D.
Projects like smart grid implementations [1], battery manufacturing lines [2], biofuels plants [3] or industrial energy efficiency implementations [4] that represented the bulk of cleantech grants to the private sector in 2009. Instead of focusing on cultivating businesses that can sustain themselves via customers, government handouts have focused company time and money on lobbyists and grant writers. And if you haven’t noticed, the handouts are huge, with many in the tens of millions and even hundreds of millions of dollars for a single award.
Some award winners, like ECOtality [5], are honest enough to admit that their efforts to secure government funding directly attributed to a drop in their revenues. For every company that wins a cleantech grant, there are as many as 10 times the companies that applied and lost [6]. All those losers spent significant time and money chasing those funds and, in the process, neglecting their real business and real customers. Lately the discussion in board rooms often has concentrated more on how to win the next government grant and which lobbyist to hire than on how to build a successful and sustainable business.
At the most basic level, the goal of energy policy should be to speed our transition to sustainable domestic energy consumption-a transition that would occur naturally as carbon-based energy sources declined but likely too slowly to avoid the environmental, economic and national security implications.
Presumably, the concept behind hundreds of billions of dollars in grants to the private sector is to enable and encourage acceleration of this change. As such, it also must presume that government employees can select winners better than the private sector, do so without political influence, and that the projects being funded are absolutely ones that would not have occurred without government funding.
Finally, those same government employees 1) must be able to select projects that will help accomplish our goal, and 2) must either be able to continue to fund those projects or have effectively analyzed that a one-time grant will be sufficient to incentivize the private sector to take over from there.
My Democratic friends may scream at me, but those are an awful lot of largely unrealistic presumptions that defy the history of government grant programs to the private sector (Synfuels and the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Advanced Technology Program are just two examples.) And to add insult to injury, large amounts of the recent cleantech grants will help the competitiveness of foreign corporations as it was awarded to U.S. subsidiaries or joint ventures of those companies (for example, hundreds of millions in battery grants [2] involving LG Chem, Kokam, Itochu, BASF and Saft). While the government has long had a role in advancing basic R&D, the concept that the U.S. will jump-start, let alone build, a sustainable energy economy through government handouts for implementation of manufacturing plants, production facilities or enhanced utility grids is, quite simply, ludicrous.
Government grants to the private sector are great PR and make the cleantech public feel good. But they don’t provide quick economic stimulus to the economy (see Cleantech Stimulus Not Very Stimulating [7]) and will not provide meaningful acceleration on the path to sustainable domestic energy consumption. In the end, the only way to have sustainable change is to have a change in the fundamental economics of energy-both in the cost of non-sustainable sources and in the regulatory infrastructure through which carbon based energy companies and utilities earn money.
We all saw how quickly things began to change when oil hit $100 a barrel and how quickly they reverted when prices went back down. Reform the regulatory environment so that utilities can profit from conserving energy instead of from building power plants and watch how things change.
In my home state of Colorado, wind turbine manufacturer Vestas just announced it is furloughing all 500 workers [8] at the plant it built not long ago. Why? Vestas notes the challenge of natural gas prices being so low that wind turbines can’t compete. I guess we need to borrow more money from the Chinese and other foreign governments to further increase our grants to the wind turbine market… or, we can focus on a sustainable solution.
Nothing can provoke an economic transformation more quickly than the free market appropriately motivated by profit. That, in fact, is largely how we got to where we are today with our reliance on carbon-based energy sources. And the most sweeping and powerful thing the government can do is to influence the profit motive for the private sector by changing energy economics. But that is a topic for another blog post. (And now my Republican friends can scream).

Glowing OLED wallpaper instead of light bulbs?

Glowing OLED wallpaper instead of light bulbs?
By Lisa Sibley
Published 2010-01-04 15:46
It may not be long before consumers are trading in light bulbs in favor of a new form of glowing wallpaper.
A Welsh company founded two years ago called Lomox recently received a £454,000 ($731,000) grant from the Carbon Trust for its ultra-efficient organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology.
When coated onto a film, the company says it could be used to cover walls creating a light-emitting wallpaper that would replace the need for traditional light bulbs, among other applications such as more energy-efficient television, computer, and mobile phone screens.
Lomox says its flexible technology offers a longer lifespan compared to fluorescent lamps and is more efficient (producing 150 lumens/watt), as it only emits light along one axis.
In addition, the company says its technology requires a low operating voltage, between three to fives volts, so it could be powered by solar or batteries in areas where electricity is not available, such as with traffic signage.
The company expects its first OLED lighting products to hit the market in 2012.
The Carbon Trust is an independent company set up and funded by the UK government to help accelerate commercialization of low carbon technologies (see Carbon Trust backs energy-efficient pumping technology [1]).
It is currently looking for other technologies with significant carbon saving potential to receive up to £500,000 in grant funding through its Applied Research scheme, with an application deadline of Feb. 18.

Interactive Mediums is now Signal

Interactive Mediums is now Signal. Here is a notice from their website about their name change:
We make cross-channel marketing simple. Creating long-term relationships with consumers means understanding their channel preferences and harnessing marketing tools beyond mobile alerts. For this reason, we have evolved our application from a mobile-marketing SMS-based platform to a cross-channel-marketing engagement suite.

This product evolution includes brand new campaign features that include email marketing and social media monitoring and engagement to help you orchestrate cross-channel campaigns easily and creatively.
Signal is the only SaaS platform on the market that approaches the cross channel challenge from a position of strength in mobile channel marketing. It ties channels together, unifies the customer record, and provides tools and workflows that enable digital marketers to quickly and easily create cross-channel, rather than multi-channel campaigns optimized for today’s on-the-go consumer.
With such considerable transformation of our product taking place, we felt it only right to rename the company in perfect alignment with our product mission, thus we are now Signal. www.signalhq.com

Update on Fanfound from Chris Bauman

Subject: Re: Chris, can you give me an update on what is going on at Fanfound?
Date: 9/16/2010 12:17:00 A.M. Central Daylight Time
From: chris@fanfound.com

Hey Ron,

Thanks for reaching out. I know that stabilizing your health has been a challenge the last year; please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers over here at FanFound. It’s inspiring to see how despite the challenges you’ve faced, you’ve managed not to miss a beat on the Chicago tech scene.

We have some exciting things going on behind the scenes at FanFound which are going to make quite the splash once we’re ready to unveil. For the last year we have constructed an entirely new and significantly enhanced FanFound v1 platform under the radar and out of the public eye, have discretely begun raising our Series A investment round, and have initiated some heavy hitting partner contracts in preparation for a full fledged national re-launch potentially as soon as November. One of the many key features of the new FanFound system will be a subscription service, empowering the everyday entertainment consumer to participate in a multitude of entertainment experiences from live music, to sports, to comedy, and much more all with one low monthly fee.

We will have a new landing page “teaser” introducing the new system on FanFound.com in the coming weeks, enabling entertainment lovers to provide contact info in exchange for a free trial once we’re live. I’ll keep you posted on timing, and seeing as you reached out to me before anyone else, will be sure the May Report is the source to break the story.

Thanks again for getting in touch and for your continued work putting the Chicago tech on the map,

- Chris

$1000 and coworking space for your company
Traction is the secret sauce of success in early stage startups and can be achieved with ever-decreasing amounts of capital. Simply stated, traction is proving that customers are willing to pay for your product. Traction can enable a business to sustain itself through bootstrapping, prove market interest, and attract investment.
ScaleWell is a catalyst for startup traction – By providing one team or an individual entrepreneur with a $1000 grant and coworking space on a quarterly basis we want entrepreneurs to explore important questions like: How many customers can be acquired for $1000 or how far will a small sum move a company toward profitability? The best way to develop answers to these questions is to DO IT. Build the product, get customers, and collect metrics along the way.
The small amount of capital ScaleWell injects into a startup takes the company to its next milestone or iteration on its business plan. We call it Iterative Capital, just enough money, motivation, and support to successfully iterate in a startup.
Why scalable businesses?
Scalability has many definitions but the core concept is a business that makes more profit the more product it sells. This asymmetry of revenues and costs means the business has the potential to be very profitable, grow rapidly and produce long lasting value.
For our purposes, we are usually talking about businesses with software products and businesses who deliver their product electronically. However, we entertain awarding grants to all types of businesses.
Giving money with no return? Are you crazy?
It’s not rocket science. The ScaleWell trustees like entrepreneurs and want to help create more successful and innovative companies. Getting traction at an early-stage helps reduce the time necessary to build a scalable product and repeatably acquire new customers. ScaleWell provides capital and support at the lowest possible entry point.

Please join us for the third Leaders & Legends event of 2010, TiE Midwest’s exclusive networking series for entrepreneurs, sponsored by Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP (www.drinkerbiddle.com ). This series provides an opportunity for our invited guests to interact with Chicago’s most legendary and experienced business owners in an informal and off the record environment. Our third installment in this series will feature Troy Henikoff.

Troy Henikoff has almost 25 years of running early stage businesses under his belt, has been an advisor to dozens of startups and has made a handful of seed stage investments as well. Additionally he teaches Entrepreneurship at Northwestern University, is on the board of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center and is a founder and director of Chicago’s new incubator, Excelerate.

As CEO of OneWed, Troy lead the re-launch of OneWed.com, a wedding website that provides the largest online database of wedding vendors, detailed ratings and reviews and a smart, unique voice for wedding planning tips and advice. The site connects brides and vendors in a focused online marketplace while providing users with the most informative wedding resources available in the online bridal world.

Troy co-founded SurePayroll.com, an Internet-based payroll service bureau focused on companies with fewer than 100 employees. Under his leadership as President, SurePayroll grew from an idea on paper to a nationally recognized payroll service bureau in less than three years. Today, SurePayroll is the largest Internet payroll provider and the fifth largest payroll company in the country, managing billions of payroll dollars annually. A two-time Inc. 500 honoree, SurePayroll is one of the fastest-growing companies in the country.

Before developing SurePayroll, Troy was recruited by Jellyvision, Inc. to build a software development capability from scratch. Within 18 months, Troy assembled a team and set of tools for quickly creating highly interactive multimedia experiences. Troy’s team utilized these tools to develop products including “You Don’t Know Jack®” for Jellyvision, and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire®” for Disney Interactive.

In 1986, Troy founded Specialized Systems and Software, which focused on creating custom database applications. The company quickly developed a national presence, amassing a client list that included companies like Abbott labs, CDW, Hyatt Hotels and McDonald’s Corp. In 1992, Medline Industries purchased the business and it became the Systemetrics Division of Medline Industries, the largest privately-held US manufacturer and distributor of medical products. Within five years, Systemetrics’ software was installed in nearly 10 percent of the nation’s hospitals.

Hi Ron,

I haven’t been going to many recently. I’m trying to kick off a project that I’ve been working on for quite some time now.

I’ll be at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) all week. It is a bi-annual show that takes up all the space at McCormick.
As a ‘technology guru’, it’s definitely something you should attend. I’m sure you will have a different impression of manufacturing after attending this show.

You could never see it all, so if you decide to go, please let me know and I’ll tell you the areas that are really interesting.

I’ll also see if I can get you in for free. I’m volunteering some of my time there at the Emerging Technology Center in the “Additive Manufacturing” section.

I’m going to try to make it to MITEF tonight. After the Design and Engineering Show the end of this month, I plan to start attending more meetings.

Hope to see you at MITEF tonight.

Thanks Ron,

Scott

Ruth was so kind to share this information. I meet a ton of great business people who say they could use an intern. There are usually a lot of rules and regulations surrounding this soprt of thing, but these are the people to contact about it at IIT. This is the kind of info that can be really helpful to someone who needs it, and I feel it’s good to share it. Besides, students are always looking for something interesting to do. Thanks IIT, and thank you to Ruth who has been a long time reader of The May Report. -Melanie

Melanie,
Yes, I’ve subscribed to TMR since its inception; that’s where I read that you found navigating IIT’s Main Campus to be challenging.

In terms of interns, I’m making two connections for you:
* IIT’s Career Management Center www.cmc.iit.edu/home.asp (CMC), with its Employer register www.cmc.iit.edu/employers/welcome.asp to post positions and review student resumes;
* the Director of IIT’s Stuart School of Business Career Management Center with whom you can work to identify interns from that college:
Luigi Pecoraro, lpecorar@iit.edu, 312.906.6555 o)

FYI: the CMC is holding the Fall Career Fair for students on Thursday, September 23, on the Main Campus. Details. www.cmc.iit.edu/employers/careerFair/index.asp
If you are not currently recruiting via a sponsored table, but interested in connecting with our students, please consider participating in our Career Fair’s Meet & Greet. For more information please contact our office at cmc@iit.edu or 312.567.6800

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you in tapping additional IIT resources.

Subject: Visiting IIT’s Main Campus

Melanie,
Just touching base with a resource that may be of use in your visits to IIT’s Main Campus. From the IIT home page, click on “Business & Industry” to get to our One-Stop for Business & Industry. Among the various links is “Main Campus Parking” which includes a map of the campus.

www.iit.edu/~parking/pdfs/parkingmap.pdf

Hopefully you will have many reasons and opportunities to visit the university’s Main Campus (and four other campuses) in the future. If we can make your IIT campus experience easier/more enjoyable in any way, just let me know.

Regards,
~Ruth
