[Editor's note: May here. Still in hospital, waiting for the infectious disease
guys to decide on an anti-biotic regimen and then they may send me home --
depending on the results of the MRI they did this morning. I absolutely hate
that test. It is very uncomfortable wnd you're in a confined space with your
hands above your head and shoulders whlle lying down, but you probably know all
that. Here is a word I have not heard used in medical terms before: fastidious.
It refers to the infections in the gut and how they do not tend to grow very
easily in cultures. That makes identifying them more difficult. I suspect that
is just one form of being fastidious.

The MRI was to see if there is an obstruction in the biliary track which might
be contrbiuting to the abscess. The results are in and it seems that there is
no abnormal obstruction.

I'd love to go to the BNC Entrepreneur event tonight but that does not seem
likely. Howard Tullman is always interesting -- agree or disagree with him.

I received a cry cryptic message from one of our regulars that "Chicago tech is
over." No explanation forthcoming yet for that statement.

-- Spencer Maus left me a message that he is moving to a smaller office space,
but staying with Melissa G.

-- Darcy Evon left me a message that she has been on the board of that firm
since 2004 when she was back at IIT.

-- Julian Pretto keeps dropping hints that he did close to $2MM in biz last
month. He also adds that he does nmot want to see his name in the report.

-- Lundin has noted a large increase in out of town biz.

-- And I have noticed that same trend with other people, especially in the
services field.

-- A guy named Jeff G. got married in May.

-- Steve Levin, the real estate guy behind the 247 S. State building is going
through a divorce after 23 years of marriage.

OK, good news and ridiculous news at 11:55am Wednesday. Dr. Hussain (internal
medicine) just came in and he said that I can go home today, probably tonight.

They want to install what is known as a PICC line in my right arm. That stands
for Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (put in the bassilic vein in the
upper arm.)

They will send a home health care nurse to teach me how to use it. But only to
teach me and then come to clean it once a week.

But under the rules of Medicare (as a dialysis patient I am on Medicare) they
cannot send a nurse very day. The anti-biotics have to be given every day for
four weeks, once a day for thirty minutes each day.

So here my friends is the rub. They don't have outpatient IV antibiotic
services at Masonic. They may have them at other hospitals, but not here.

I will be on Ertapenem (IV) and Levaquin (orally). Dr. Lisowski in infectious
disease made that decision. They claim that the PICC line is easy to use. We'll
see. :-)

But if the plan for me to do it myself will not work, Medicare will pay for an
extended care facillity for a month or more.

Yes, you read that right! Our great health care delivery system will pay for me
to be in an extended care facility for a month (or more), but won't pay for a
nurse to come to my apartment on a daily basis.

Sue Makowka, the case manager, is still, after 25 years in the biz, incredulous
that this is the system.

I have a ton of mail and other items that I can't get my hands on until I get
home, so be forewarned.

The PICC line has to be installed now and tested by the Interventional
Radiology department.

Here is one more twist. My personal care giver, Carlos, is not allowed to do
this for me legally. He can be taught by me to do it, but not by the home
health care nurse.

One more thing. Ertapenem cannot be given by my dialysis clinic because it is
not part of their forumulary (portfolio of meds) but Vancomycin can be.

I am being used as a case study by Dr. Malow and his students from Chicago
Medical School and UIC because "I am complicated and interesting."

No time for a Table of Contents but we haver a number of events including BNC,
AMC, ACG and more alphabet soup.]

Advanced Diamond Technologies Awarded Grant to Develop the Next Generation of
Pad Conditioners for CMP

Romeoville, IL-July 14, 2010-Advanced Diamond Technologies (ADT) received a
Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National
Science Foundation (NSF) to develop the next generation of chemical mechanical
planarization (CMP) pad conditioners for the semiconductor industry. The
controlled geometrical protrusions on ADT’s microfabricated diamond CMP pad
conditioners enable the production of next generation semiconductor devices
while offering the unsurpassed chemical inertness of diamond without the “pull
out” failure that characterize currently available diamond CMP pads.

ADT’s pad conditioners feature highly repeatable 3D diamond structures that
create a textured surface, and many different structure heights and pitches can
be easily engineered. These pad conditioners are manufactured using highly
refined semiconductor processing techniques which enable ADT to offer products
that are of much higher quality than the current generation of conditioners at
competitive prices.

“The benefits of a micromachined diamond surface include low wear and precise
diamond patterning, to meet the demands of the 32 nm node and beyond, which can
result in CMP pad conditioners that last longer and perform better than the
current industry standards,” said Dr. John A. Carlisle, chief technology
officer, ADT.

“With a potential order of magnitude increase in lifetime for the pad
conditioner, the frequency of changing both pad and pad conditioner can be
reduced, saving time and money,” said Dr. Diane P. Hickey, director of sales
and marketing, ADT. “Our pad conditioners can be designed and optimized for
different pad and slurry combinations. We are partnering with CMP industry
players to bring this exciting technology to market.”

ADT gratefully acknowledges the NSF’s SBIR program for sponsoring this work.

About Advanced Diamond Technologies

ADT is the world leader in the development of diamond for industrial,
electronics, energy, and medical applications. ADT is a World Economic Forum
2007 Technology Pioneer, a recipient of a 2008 EuroAsia IC Award in the
Materials Enabling category from EuroAsia Semiconductor, a 2008 R&D 100 Award
winner for UNCD® Seals (mechanical seals for pumps), and a 2009 R&D 100 Award
winner for NaDiaProbes® (the world’s first all-diamond atomic force microscopy
probes). ADT sells wafer scale diamond products to the semiconductor
consumables industry. For more information about ADT, visit

Hello friends,

Most of you know I?m an alum of the UofChicago Booth school of business. I?m
also a co-leader of the Consulting Roundtable and we?ve been able to put
together this powerhouse panel on health care and want to make sure everyone
knows and that we get a full house.

It?s open to alums and all professionals who are working in the industry or
interested in the topic. I hope you can come. Please come out and also let
other people and groups you think might be interested know about this event
next Thursday, July 22.

Attendance is free, the education and networking will be phenomenal, and the
cash bar will be well stocked.
===============

It?s the trillion dollar question: What should health care look like in the USA
and how do we get there?

What are the ongoing issues, challenges, and what is likely to change in the
Health Care Industry with pending legislation and emerging medical
technologies? What do health care companies, hospitals, and doctors need these
days and how can consultants help? There are many opinions, many national
models to learn from, heated debates on concepts of access and how to maintain
economic and technological competitiveness, not to mention day to day
operational and strategic issues.

Come hear a panel of industry experts explain new emerging opportunities,
ongoing issues and ?panic projects? in an age of reform. The presenters will
cover a broad spectrum of industry topics including operations, marketing and
technology issues.

Melissa Giovagnoli is trying to become a regular on Oprah!!??

Oprah’s New Show Contest

Thursday, July 1, 2010

As you resonate with the idea of Networlding and values-based networking, I
thought you would appreciate the opportunity to help vote Networlding into a
show on Oprah’s new network called OWN. (Note: I promise if I get a show, I’ll
work to get many of you on!)

For those of you who might be unaware Oprah was looking for new show ideas so I
decided to throw my hat in the ring and suggest a Networlding show. The show
would be about you. Really, YOU.

The story I share in the audition video happened because of Networlding. I
connected someone who is a good friend of mine who was also a good friend of
Oprah’s, together with another good friend, John St. Augustine who I had met
when I was on his radio show a number of years ago.

John St. Augustine was just your everyday guy who lived in Schaumburg. n 1996,
at the lowest point in his life, after moving into motel where he would live
with his family for one year, John St. Augustine undertook a miraculous journey
as he walked from Upper Michigan to Chicago and back. This journey of a
thousand miles became a journey of discovery, a chance for John, whose business
ventures had failed, to reinvent himself.

It was on this walk that the idea for a radio show came to him; a show that
would be a positive voice in a radio world saturated with cynicism and
negativity. The amazing thing is that through Networlding he took his life to
an even more impactful level. That’s what I have been doing with Networlding
since it began. John is just like you and me. I have not been “discovered” yet
if you will. I am just someone who cares and works each day to make a
difference.

Please check out my video audition and if you like it, vote for me
budurl.com/OprahShowContest

Please feel free to also leave a comment. Note also that you can vote more than
once. It’s really simple.

Send it around too if you like it.

Thanks so much!

Best,

Melissa

Hi Ron,

Hope you are feeling better.

Our beta site is up and running and we are growing quickly. To support our
rapid growth we are raising capital. I would like to get your feedback
regarding our Executive Summary. Let’s schedule a time to talk soon. Let me
know when is best for you.

Bob

We would like to introduce you to Cadreas. We are raising capital to grow
aggressively and we invite you to review an opportunity to invest in Cadreas.

The key problem we solve and the opportunity we create is to improve
construction projects by saving time and money while achieving better results.

The industry is highly fragmented and lacks a dominant web platform which
connects, aggregates, and organizes all people, products, services,
information, and content needed to improve design and construction projects.

Cadreas has developed and launched a patent pending system to accomplish this.

After 2 years of research and development, Cadreas, www.cadreas.com, launched
in June and our vision is to develop Cadreas into the largest, most
comprehensive, and most useful on-line platform for the design, development,
and construction industry.

Leading industry companies such as Whirlpool, Boise Cascade, Pella, DuPont
Landscape Products, Valspar, Bexxim, and chapters of the U.S. Green Building
Council have joined Cadreas.

The attached Executive Summary outlines the opportunity. Additional information
is available and a brief webinar can be scheduled by emailing us at
rfrumkin@cadreas.com or calling 847-340-1024.

See what industry leaders are saying about Cadreas at: :

Thank you!

Bob

CADREAS Overview

Over 20 million design, construction and renovation projects are initiated in
the US each year and $1.2 Trillion is spent annually. The design, development
and construction industry is highly fragmented and lacks a unified web-platform
for all construction project stakeholders.

Cadreas fills that void.

· Cadreas connects design professionals, builders, developers, property owners,
associations, managers, and product manufacturers.

· It organizes construction project content making it quick and easy to find,
research, and specify professional services, building products, building
methodologies including best practices, green and sustainable information.

· Patent Pending Planning tools streamline workflows from concept through
completion and enhance collaboration and accountability for the entire design
and build team to help achieve more successful project outcomes.

· Cadreas is building a community of 10,000 manufacturers with 2 million
building products; 1 million design and build professional companies; and 20
million property owners and managers, developers, real estate specialists, and
consumers.

· Leading manufactures, trade associations and design companies such as
Whirlpool, DuPont, Boise Cascade, Pella, Valspar, United States Green Building
Council Chicago and Orange County Chapters, CEDIA, Amerian Institute of Buildng
Design, Danielian Associates, KTGY Group, V3-Studio, BORM Engineering, and
Blackstone Consulting have already joined Cadreas.
